Birkenhead (Landican) Crematorium

 

The Crematorium was opened in 1934 and is situated in Birkenhead (Landican) Cemetery. The names of nearly 40 1939-1945 war casualties are inscribed on a screen wall of Portland stone which stands facing towards the Cross of Sacrifice in the War Graves Plot in the cemetery. The screen wall also bears the following inscription: 1939 - 1945 THE SAILORS SOLDIERS AND AIRMEN COMMEMORATED HERE DIED IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY AND WERE CREMATED

Commemorated at this site is Frederick James Ormrod, who served with the Merchant Navy during the Second World War.
