St John sub Castro, Lewes

St John sub Castro stands in Lancaster Street, Lewes, East Sussex.

This large church, described as "a modern building" in an 1861 Guide, was built on the site of an earlier church and on the edge of a steep hill.

The churchyard contains the grave of George Milner Ormerod, late Chief Constable of East Sussex.

George's son, George Wareing Drewry Ormerod, who was killed near Caen, during the Second World War, is also commemorated on the grave.
