Rennie died on 21 May 1916, and is buried in Ste Marie Cemetery, Le Havre, Normandy (Grave Ref. Div. 19. CC. 3).

Rennie's brother, Clement Ormerod, also died during the First World War.

During the First World War, Le Havre was one of the ports at which the British Expeditionary Force disembarked in August 1914. Except for a short interval during the German advance in 1914 it remained No 1 Base throughout the war and by the end of May 1917, it contained three general and two stationary hospitals, and four convalescent depots.

The First World War Medal Rolls confirm that Rennie died of wounds on 21 May 1916. He was entitled to the British War Medal, Victory Medal and 1914-15 Star (having entered a theatre of war on 2 May 1915).

At the time of Rennie's death 2nd Battalion, Border Regiment, formed part of 20th Brigade, 7th Division.

The Soldiers Died in the Great War Database records that Rennie died of wounds. The Database also notes that he was born in Colne, and was a resident of Radcliffe. He enlisted in the Army in Manchester.
